I'm a homeschooling mom of 2 great kids. I've been married to my wonderful husband since 1997. I love to crochet, knit, and digi scrap. So, you never know what I might post about!

I sure haven't been very talkative lately. I guess the novelty of having a blog wore off...it happens. Well, let's see, has there been anything interesting happen since I last wrote? No, not really. I finished the colorful afgan and am now working on another bereavement blanket. Got an email from the Blanket Lady saying that the hospital that requested the bereavement blankets doesn't need nearly as many as they originally said they do, so since everyone kicked it into high gear to get those made, they have plenty. Which is good news, since for one thing that means there aren't as many dying kids as they originally said. And for another thing, when I finish the one I'm working on, I can go back to making happy, fun, colorful blankets for live (though usually sick, homeless or abused) kids instead of plain white blankets for dead kids. It's good to know your blankets will be enjoyed by someone, rather than being given to grieving parents to put in their kids' coffins.
Anyway, it's getting close to Christmas and I have all my presents bought! I finished way early this year. Before Thanksgiving even. Why does it seem like I've already said that? Probably because I already did. Anyway, I still have to wrap those few presents. B and I decided not to give each other gifts this year because money is so tight. So, we went to The Discovery Store and bought ourselves a board game set. They sell ones just like it at Wal-Mart. It's a wooden box with slide-out boards for, like, 7 different games. We got it at The Discovery Store instead of at Wal-Mart because since he works for Time Warner, they gave him a 15% off card. So, that's what we bought for each other for Christmas.
I think that's about all I've got for now. H is still doing great on her reading. Handwriting is moving right along. Listening skills isn't going so well (duh). And math is getting harder. She's had to do some review. I just hope it isn't a sign of what's to come and that this is just a rough spot. I'm TERRIBLE at math, but B's really good at it. So, it wouldn't be outside the realm of possibilities that she might be equally terrible at it, but I'm really hoping she's just taking a little extra time to process new information and will recover shortly. Then again, if she doesn't, that's not the end of the world, either. I've survived 29 1/2 years of life on Earth being mathematically challenged, so I'm sure she'll be fine, too. That's one of the reasons we homeschool...so she can go over and review any material that she has problems with until she has it mastered without worrying about being left behind or slowing the class down, or being embarrassed about not picking it up as quickly as other children. And of course, the converse...being able to move on ahead once she knows something and not having to spend an inordinate amount of time on material she already understands. In fact, today after our phonics lesson, she flipped past several lessons in the book and found a page of sentences and read them (she only made minor concentration mistakes), then said, "Now we don't have to read that lesson when we get to that page." hahaha Well, I guess that's true!
